IPTV Smarters Pro is the most widely used IPTV player in the world for one reason: it runs on almost every screen you own, from a Samsung TV to an iPhone, and the setup is identical everywhere. This guide walks you through installing and setting up IPTV Smarters on every device, explains the login screen field by field, and fixes the five problems that stop most first-time users.
What you need before you start
Your provider sends you an Xtream Codes login: a server URL (something like http://example.com:8080), a username and a password. Some providers send an M3U link instead; Smarters accepts both. Keep the message open on your phone so you can copy the details exactly. If you don’t have a subscription yet, request a free trial on WhatsApp and follow along with real channels.
Install IPTV Smarters on each device
Amazon Fire Stick / Fire TV
Smarters is not in the Amazon store, so it is sideloaded with the free Downloader app: enable Install unknown apps, install Downloader, enter the APK address from your provider and install. The full walkthrough with screenshots is in our Fire Stick IPTV guide.
Android TV Box, Google TV, Nvidia Shield
Open the Google Play Store, search IPTV Smarters and install. If your box has no Play Store (generic X96/T95 boxes), use Downloader exactly as on a Fire Stick. Our Android box buying guide explains the difference.
Samsung Smart TV (Tizen) and LG Smart TV (webOS)
Open the TV’s app store (Samsung Apps or LG Content Store), search IPTV Smarters and install. The TV versions may show an activation screen with a small one-time fee per device; that is normal. Older TVs (before 2018) may not have the app, in which case a Fire Stick is the simplest fix. More options in our Smart TV app comparison.
iPhone and iPad
Search the App Store for Smarters Player Lite (the iOS edition of IPTV Smarters). Install, open, and use the same Xtream Codes login. You can AirPlay to an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV.
Android phone and tablet
Google Play Store → IPTV Smarters Pro → install. The phone version supports Chromecast, so you can cast a channel to any TV with a Chromecast or Google TV.
Windows and Mac
Download the desktop app from the official IPTV Smarters website (never from a forum link), install and log in. Great for a second screen in the office or a laptop on holiday.
The login screen, field by field
- Open the app, accept the terms, and choose Login with Xtream Codes API (or Load your playlist or file/URL if you only have an M3U link).
- Any name: a label for this profile, e.g. “Living room”. It doesn’t matter what you type.
- Username and Password: copy them exactly. They are case-sensitive and a single extra space breaks the login.
- Server URL / Portal: the full address including http:// and the port number (the digits after the colon). Missing the port is the number one cause of “invalid details”.
- Press Add User. The app downloads the channel list, then shows the main menu: Live TV, Movies, Series, and (with some providers) Catch-up and Radio.
The first time, wait two or three minutes for the EPG (TV guide) to download before judging it. It updates automatically afterwards.
Recommended settings (do this once)
- Settings → Player Settings: set Live TV, Movies and Series to Exo Player (or VLC if you installed it). The built-in player is the least stable.
- Hardware decoder: ON. It offloads video to the chip and removes stutter.
- Time format / Time zone: set your country so the guide matches real kick-off times.
- Parental control: set a PIN if children use the TV; adult categories can be hidden.
- Automation → EPG: enable automatic EPG update every 24 hours.
Everyday use: the features people miss
Favourites: long-press a channel (or use the star icon) to add it to Favourites; the group appears at the top of Live TV. Search: the magnifying glass searches channels, films and series at once; type “laliga” to see every matching channel. Catch-up: channels with a clock icon can be rewound up to several days; open the channel, press the catch-up icon and pick the programme. Multi-screen: from the main menu, Multi-Screen shows two or four channels simultaneously, ideal on match days. Continue watching: films and series episodes resume where you stopped.
Fix the five most common problems
“Invalid username or password”: retype the server URL with the port, remove spaces, check the subscription hasn’t expired, and confirm you are not logged in on more devices than your plan allows.
Channels load but the screen stays black: switch the decoder to Exo Player or VLC in Player Settings, then reopen the channel.
EPG is empty: Settings → EPG → refresh, wait three minutes; if still empty, ask your provider for their EPG URL and add it under “External EPG”.
Buffering every few seconds: almost always the network, not the app. Run through our 12 buffering fixes, starting with Ethernet and the 5 GHz band.
App crashes on open: clear the app cache (device Settings → Apps → IPTV Smarters → Clear cache), restart the device, and update the app to the latest version.
Should you use Smarters or TiviMate?
Smarters is the safest all-round choice and the only serious option on Smart TVs and iPhone. On a Fire Stick or Android box, TiviMate offers a better live TV guide and recording. Our TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters comparison helps you decide, and with a STORY IPTV plan you can run both on up to five devices with the same login. Ready to start?
